Course Objectives:

 

  • Liisa will walk you through the orthodontic experience from the new patient exam through to the retention phase
  • You will develop an understanding of the dental hygiene scope of practice for orthodontics 
  • Each participant with learn the foundational terminology in relation to orthodontics 
  • You will learn the value of taking proper orthodontic records as well as the skills and knowledge to create them 
  • The classes of occlusion will be reviewed and examined  
  • You will learn about the components of orthodontics and understand the rationale and strategy of proper and efficient placement of brackets and bands 
  • Wire sequencing and selection will be reviewed
  • The course will unpack and review the mechanics of foundational movements 
  • Real life case studies will be reviewed and analyzed

 

Hands-On:

 

  • The hands-on component will give each participant experience placing brackets and tying in wires.
  • Participants will be given the opportunity to practice placing brackets on models using the techniques learned in class while receiving feedback from their experienced teacher.
  • Lingual wire placement techniques will be practiced and reviewed.
  • Case studies and anticipated outcomes will be examined and reviewed to prepare for real life scenarios.

 

Getting ready for hands-on please bring with you:

 

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes
  • Loupes and/or safety glasses
